On joining ZS
“I graduated from Northwestern University in Computer Science and Economics, and started at ZS in September 2003.”
On working at ZS
What most surprised you when you started at ZS?
“One of my first roles was developing a back-end for a forecasting product. The task was pretty broad in scope and I was surprised to be doing relatively critical work so early on. I think my sense of product ownership developed pretty quickly as a result of this responsibility. Luckily, I was provided plenty of support in the form of mentor review and team feedback.”
On commuting to work
“I live in a condo a brisk 10-minute walk away from the office. It’s enjoyable to have such a reasonable commute.”
On working in Evanston
“It’s great. I don’t have a car, but I do live 5 minutes from the CTA and Metra, making heading to downtown Chicago painless. Evanston itself can provide pretty much any mundane material need. We’re bordered on the East by Lake Michigan, and to the far north by Wisconsin. What more could you ask for?”
On where to get project help
“Getting help here couldn’t be much easier. If I have a problem that isn’t the type that Google can answer, one of our local resources certainly will. This is usually any combination of a) an answer from one of our friendly, in-house experts, b) our internal development blog, or c) sample code from our repository.”
On advice for candidates searching for a development position
“Don’t hide your passion for solving complex problems.”
