ZS Career Path

Consultant, 2005

On the work

"The range of projects is wide: from a company that makes specialised medical devices with 20 reps across Europe to a leading pharmaceutical company with 800+ reps in the U.K. alone. From shaping strategy over the next five years to deciding whether there should be one or two sales reps covering Paris.

"My favourite project so far has been determining the size, structure and geographic alignment of a small sales force across Europe. It's exciting to work with smaller hi-tech companies who are well positioned in rapidly growing markets. In addition to delivering the sales force plan right down to territory level, we provided additional value to the client in some ways they weren't expecting-an account database, customer segmentation and strategic insight around how to win business from competitor accounts."

On ZS values

Get It Right: "ZS people take pride in ensuring that their work is right. First, this means doing the right analysis. In my last project, the client asked us to assess the impact of a new sales force role in a particular way. As we gained deeper understanding of the role, we realised that the analysis would have to be done differently to give meaningful results. We spent time discussing this with the client and agreed on a different approach which better reflected the impact of the role at key decision points. Next, we ensure the analysis is correct. Our teams run quality control checks, sense-check the results, and confirm key results. Finally, we ensure that the presentation of the results is spot-on. Our client contact handed his final presentation slides over to us for a last check of consistency, data points, and spelling/ grammar…56 changes later, he was impressed by our attention to detail!"

On life outside work

"I want to make the most of living in London: eating out, concerts, events, parks, etc. I also try to keep fit through running and some cycling. It's nice to get away from London, too. Living close to Paddington station, it's easy to get away for a weekend in Wales. In the last few months, I've also taken weekend breaks in Slovenia, Norway and France."

On the London office

"The office is right next to Hyde Park, which is great for a run after work. In summer, we cross the road over to the Park to have a lunchtime sandwich or an after-work game of football (standard: low; competitiveness: high). Being on the Central Line and right at the end of Oxford Street is also great for meeting up with friends or going to events in the evening, and there are plenty of local pubs if end-of-week drinks are needed."
