Data Warehousing for a Pharmaceutical Company

Issue

A global pharmaceutical company needed to integrate multiple sources of sales and marketing data so that analysts could conduct meaningful analyses and provide relevant reports.

Results

ZS built an analytical data mart to manage data from more than 30 therapeutic areas for around 25 high-level sales and marketing analysts. This centralized solution reduced analysis time by providing direct access to integrated, accurate data. To accomplish this, ZS provided project management, systems and application design, system development and deployment, on-going operations, and change management expertise.

Approach

Guiding principles used to design the analytical data mart included:

  • Flexibility in data access, providing methods to efficiently extract data in formats to be used in a variety of analysis tools
  • Efficiency in data organization to provide easy access to an integrated view of the most frequently used data
  • Data quality assurance
  • Scalability to include additional data sources as availability and needs increase
  • Improved communication and problem resolution through the data steward role

The Oracle®-based analytical data mart was specifically designed to facilitate access to frequently used data with minimal query time and created a basis to support future initiatives.
