Life After ZS

ZS Associates values each person who accepts a position with us, and each enters into a lifelong affiliation with our firm; some pursue their entire career at ZS, while others move on to other opportunities but remain members of the ZS extended family. We seek to hire individuals with career intentions, so our turnover is slightly lower than consulting-industry averages. We believe consulting can be a long-term career; about 80 percent of our principals started as associates or consultants with us.

People who leave ZS do so to:

  • Continue their formal education. We hire many ZSers with bachelor’s or master’s degrees, and many who start their careers with ZS aspire to further education three to five years into their careers. ZS has built a reputation for developing strong graduate school candidates, and our associates enter top-tier business, law, medical and other academic programs around the world. Every year, some of these graduates return to ZS as leaders.
  • Explore a different opportunity. Some individuals move into industry, become entrepreneurs or simply want a change from the consulting-project environment. ZS people have taken leadership positions within health-care companies, and have moved into roles in industries including financial services, consumer products and e-commerce. Of those who leave the firm, more people go to work for our clients than for other organizations, so they remain part of our ZS network of friends and clients.
